"Quench" from Merriam-Webster's Dictionary:

1.  a.  put out, extinguish
     b.  to put out the light or fire of
2.  c.  to relieve or satisfy with liquid

Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:19 tells us, "Do not quench the Spirit." In the verses surrounding 19 we can easily see what he means.
What quenches the Spirit? Gregg likes to say, "What's God's grows, what's man's just goes." The question isn't, "Will it?" The question is, "When will it?" The manmade world on its own will always eventually quench the Spirit. The Spirit, when allowed to flow, will always grow.
Jesus in John 7:37-38 says, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” If we are going to live the 7 words of Jesus at 12, "I must be about My Father's business," then we must realize the rivers of the world never quench our thirst. They instead quench the Spirit because they are heavily polluted. To truly quench our thirst we must bathe in the pure Word of God inside and out, daily. We must come to Jesus and drink, daily. And when we finally attempt to quench our thirst in the Word of God, we suddenly realize there is no quenching, because our once tiny creek, barely carrying a trickle, begins to turn into rivers upon rivers.
If you have tweens in your home or in your church and want to help them become raging rapids for the Kingdom, our L7 Leadership Program is a very good place to start, as it has them fast from drinking of the world and replaces it with drinking from the Word of God.
